Microsoft Excel
Beginning - 2003, 2007

If you have a project you dread doing, Microsoft Excel can probably make it easier. Whether you use its native capabilities in a beginning class or create powerful formulas and macros with advanced training, it can get the job done before you can blink!

What Will You Do During This Training?
Excel is one of the most powerful and frequently used tools in an office environment. You'll participate in exercises that are common to a typical environment and learn how to prepare a spreadsheet from scratch, manage large Excel documents, and use formatting techniques that will make your work more readable.

Prerequisite: Some experience with Windows.

Class Outline

  • Use features of the new interface, like the Office Button, Ribbon, and Quick Access Toolbar.
  • Create a basic worksheet and modify it by moving data, editing cells, and inserting or deleting rows and columns.
  • Create formulas and functions to perform basic calculations which can be copied to other cells to save time.
  • Create beautiful and effective graphs and charts.
  • Format a worksheet by specifying font settings, adding borders and color, merging cells, applying number formats, and applying styles.
  • Print the contents of a workbook after specifying title, header, footer, and margins.
  • Customize the Excel window to view multiple workbooks simultaneously, freeze and unfreeze rows and columns, and hide and unhide worksheets, rows, and columns.

 

Who Is This Training For?
Learning Excel will benefit people in the administrative and sales fields and beyond.

 

What You Will Need

·   A laptop - ours or yours. Most students prefer to work on their own laptop and that's great. You should also bring an external mouse and mouse pad. Excel 2003 or 2007 must be loaded on laptop.

If you don't have a laptop or access to one, you must let us know in advance so one of ours can be assigned to you.

·   The ability to be away from your cell phone during class. You can only turn on cell phones during breaks and lunch. This allows you to respect your trainer, and stay focused during the training session.

She's helped thousands of adult learners with the tools, tips, and resources they need to work more effectively and achieve their professional goals. She's taught Introduction to Computers, Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 and has over 12 years of experience. Her conscientious work in making the students’ educational needs a priority has been recognized with a 2007 Exceptional Customer Service Award and a 2004 Sparks Award given by Georgia State University. In 2008 she was voted “Most Passionate Instructor” by the Continuing Education Department at Chattahoochee Technical College. 

Deborah has a wonderful understanding of
the “mind set” of those of us who fear the computer
and believe with one stroke of the key we can wipe
out hours of hard work.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
If computers are required for attendance, you must be computer savvy (meaning you know how to right-click). At this time, we do not offer computer training for novices unless specifically noted on the class description (we don't mix skill sets in a class).

HANDOUTS
Some trainers provide handouts in the form of workbooks, books, or a PDF emailed to you 1-2 days prior to the training date (see workshop page under "What You Will Need").


CHECK IN AT EVENT

Check-in starts 45 minutes before start time so come early. Add 15 minutes to your schedule to give yourself enough time to park, enter the building, and get your laptop up and running (when you're bringing your own laptop for training).
 

LUNCH
Lunch is on your own in neighborhood eateries where a variety of food is available at very reasonable prices. Or bring your own. We have a kitchen with sink, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, blender, and mini refrigerator. Sometimes, everyone chips in and we buy pizza.

DIRECTIONS TO THE DIGITAL BREAKTHROUGHS INSTITUTE

Driving from Downtown Atlanta or from the airport:
85 South to 285 East, exit Riverdale Road (do not take the Riverdale Rd exit off 85-S), RIGHT. First light is Phoenix Blvd, RIGHT. About 1/2 mile or so on RIGHT is South Pointe, 1691 Phoenix Blvd. Park anywhere, free. We're in Suite 380.

We're 5 minutes away.

Taxi. Airport taxis charge a flat $20.00 one way. 
 

If you drive, follow the same directions as if you were coming from downtown Atlanta above.

No special lodging arrangements have been made for this training.
However, the Country Inn & Suites is 1 minute away. Free airport

CLASS CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
No refunds will be given due to our absorption of all costs of the class. If you cancel at least 5 business days prior to training, we will issue a credit voucher (valid for six months) valued at 75% of the class price (25% will go to administrative costs). Feel free to transfer your registration to someone else (for your registration date only. Let us know in advance by sending an email to   events at   digitalbreakthroughs.com).

The Digital Breakthroughs Institute reserves the right to cancel a class when there is low registration or because of circumstances beyond our control such as bad weather. Our liability is strictly limited to the registration fee collected. If we cancel a class, you will be offered a credit voucher for the full amount of the registration to be used at your convenience. This voucher is transferable.

If you are not completely satisfied with this training, we offer an in-house credit voucher for the price of the class (good for one year). Just send us your request and comments in a letter on your company letterhead within five (5) working days of the training.

We will not honor any refund if a registrant who is not computer savvy or who does not bring the required information or equipment (as indicated in class description) signs up for this training. No exceptions. We appreciate your cooperation.

The Digital Breakthroughs Institute does not provide written confirmations or tickets. The email confirmation you receive after payment will describe what to expect. Your name will appear on the registration list for the class.
 

ADMINISTRIVIA

  • Adults only. Please do not cause any embarrassment for either party and adhere to this policy.

  • Please do not work on your laptop or PDA during this event when it is not required for training. It is very distracting to the people around you and especially to the trainer. Take notes the old-fashioned way.

  • Recording of any kind is prohibited.

  • Dress is business or business casual, whichever is more comfortable for you. The event may be videotaped. Your registering for this event gives us permission to use your image.

  • The event is fragrance-free, please.
